Vasquez’ Faculty Recital to Blend Music and Art
Pianist Jerico Vasquez, artist-in-residence, associate professor of music, and coordinator of keyboard studies at Shorter University, will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, in Brookes Chapel. The event is open to the public at no charge.
The program will include Claude Debussy’s Préludes Book 1 and Sergei Rachmaninov’s monumental Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor, Op. 36.
“Along with the Debussy set are 12 watercolor paintings by the Italian artist, Mario Russo, which will be shown on the screen above the piano,” Vasquez said. “I think the visual presentation adds much depth to the music from the audience’s perspective.”
Vasquez has presented this program at Bryan College, Dalton State College and the Steinway Galleries in Alpharetta. Later this month, he will perform the program at Agnes Scott College as part of the Kirk Concert Series; he will also present it at Winthrop University in South Carolina in January.
He earned his Bachelor of Music degree under Charles Asche at the University of California. Vasquez received his Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston. He has performed as a recitalist, soloist and chamber musician in the United States, Canada, Europe and the Philippines.
Vasquez was a winner of the UCSB Concerto Competition and has received career grants from the Pillsbury Foundation, the Santa Barbara Performing Arts Foundation and the Léni Fe Bland Foundation. He is an active member of the Music Teachers National Association and the Georgia Music Teachers Association.
