The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides support for faculty, staff and students in the areas of academic computing, administrative computing, institutional relations, media services, training, and support solutions.

Shorter University maintains a network infrastructure that connects all academic buildings and residence halls while providing faculty, staff, and students Internet access from any computer on all four campuses. Each classroom and office has a minimum of one dedicated data port. Each residence hall room is equipped with dedicated, high-speed internet access on a “port per pillow” ratio. In addition to cabling and data ports in all classrooms, wireless access points throughout the campus allow Internet access wirelessly with laptop or notebook PCs. Strategic placement of these access points grants Internet access in all classrooms and most common student areas such as the courtyards and cafeteria.

Shorter University’s network provides users with a wide range of campus computing resources including the SCHOLAR web portal, the Shorter University Homepage for Online Learning and Academic Resources, a central point of reference for all campus community members. The SCHOLAR portal allows students, faculty and staff to view announcements, bulletins, calendars, class schedules, links, user groups, personal account information and email in conjunction with a learning management system and other in-house applications such as the Shorter University Helpdesk and Email. You only need to log in with your SCHOLAR ID and pin to have access to these and other valuable resources from anywhere in the world. Each student, faculty and staff member receives his or her account information and SCHOLAR ID upon arrival to campus. For security reasons, this information should be kept confidential.
