Founded in 1873, Shorter University is a Christ-centered, four-year liberal arts university committed to excellence in education. The university offers traditional bachelor’s degrees in 40 areas of study, online courses and degree programs, undergraduate programs for working adults, and master’s programs.
Ben and Ollie Brady School of Nursing
The Ben and Ollie Brady School of Nursing provides students with a unique learning environment focused on meeting identified professional and personal goals. Our accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program offers five semesters of full-time study, including a required international study abroad. The nursing program goes hand-in-hand with our mission as a Christian university to serve and minister to the needs of others.

Shorter University was founded in 1873 as a liberal arts institution, and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences takes that vision to heart. The General Education core is housed primarily in our college, as we help prepare students for the rigor of their chosen majors. In addition, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences is home to numerous different degrees with diverse majors.

Ledbetter College of Business
The Robert H. Ledbetter College of Business is dedicated to the highest standards of excellence. Today, the Ledbetter College of Business houses more than one quarter of Shorter’s traditional student population. The College of Business encompasses several high-profile majors that form a firm academic foundation for entry into the workforce. Small classes are led by engaged faculty who have real-world business experience and provide an example of Christian witness in the marketplace.
Online Programs
Shorter University is giving you a new way to learn through our accessible online degree program offerings. Try out online learning with an associate degree, get a head start on a new career with a bachelor’s degree or advance towards higher learning and greater job opportunities with a master’s degree. Programs are offered in accelerated eight-week terms.

True to the Christ-centered mission of Shorter University, the School of Education prepares teachers to think “Learners First.” Our mission is to provide exemplary classroom and field experiences for teacher candidates so that they may become successful teachers. Shorter education majors are taught content, pedagogical, and curricular knowledge and nurtured to become caring professionals who are able to assist others effectively in the learning process.
School of Fine and Performing Arts
The School of Fine and Performing Arts at Shorter University is one of the finest arts schools in the Southeast. Our programs have helped create successful and internationally recognized musicians, actors, and artists. Our art, music, and theatre departments enjoy a low student-to-faculty ratio, offering students a conservatory-style education rooted in the liberal arts. Performance opportunities abound, beginning as early as the freshman year.
