  • Summary of Benefits
  • Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law that prohibits discrimination in education and reads: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” Shorter University does not discriminate on the basis of sex in its education programs and activities, admissions or employment. Prohibited sex discrimination covers sexual harassment, including sexual violence. “Sexual violence refers to physical sexual acts perpetrated against a person’s will or where a person is incapable of giving consent due to the victim’s use of drugs or alcohol, or due to an intellectual or other disability. Sexual violence includes rape, sexual assault, sexual battery and sexual coercion. All such acts of violence are forms of sexual harassment covered under Title IX and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Educational Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975.” To review the University Title IX Policy go to: https://www.staging.shorter.edu/title-ix-sexual-harassment/
