Teacher, Author Jon Decker to speak at Shorter University Feb. 16
Jon Decker, Director of Instruction at the New Albany Country Club, will speak at Shorter University’s Robert H. Ledbetter College of Business, on Thursday, Feb. 16. The event will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the lobby of Shorter’s business school, 232 Shorter Ave., Rome.
Decker’s lecture is part of Shorter University’s Character Education course taught by Rick Johnson and is the second in a four-part lecture series hosted by the College of Business to allow attendees to hear personal success stories and receive advice from business professionals. Each lecture will be open to the public.
Johnson said, “Jon Decker’s new book, ‘Golf is My Life,’ is starting to appear in many bookstores. He is coming off of his booksigning tour while he is in Atlanta next week to come to Shorter. I coached Jon in youth basketball years ago and am excited to have him share his story with our students.”
Mr. Decker is the Director of Instruction at the New Albany Country Club in New Albany, Ohio. He began his teaching career at the Grand Cyprus Academy of Golf, where he worked for 20 years under Top 100 Teachers Fred Griffin and Phil Rodgers.
In 2015, Mr. Decker was named the Southern Ohio Teacher of the Year. From 2003 to 2011, he was recognized as one of the best teachers in the state of Florida by Golf Digest. He has taught players of all levels, including players on the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, Champions Tour, and various other mini tours. He also coached at the PGA Championship 2011-2014 and the women’s U.S. Open in 2007.
He has written for Golf Digest and been featured in Golf Magazine and on the Golf Channel.
