Dr. Yaw Amponsah Adoo, a faculty member with Shorter University’s Master of Management program, has gained national attention in his home nation of Ghana and international exposure in Africa, North America, and South America.

Dr. Yaw Adoo talked with Shorter University’s Public Relations Intern Caleb Britt about his policy work in Ghana and his commitment to Christ-centered education.

Earlier in January 2017, Dr. Adoo wrote an article commenting on a 10-point plan created by Ghana’s Vice President His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, which addressed the nation’s rising youth unemployment problem. In his article, Dr. Adoo suggested that “the plan could be improved by including employment policies that benefit Ghanaian adult graduates and youth with disabilities and special needs.” Dr. Adoo said this would “amend Dr. Bawumia’s 10-point plan to an 11-point plan.”

The article has generated numerous media exposure for Dr. Adoo, opening an opportunity to offer strategic expertise to the newly democratically elected government of Ghana in a capacity that caters to youth employment and persons with disability policy. Dr. Adoo will return to Ghana in March 2017, hoping to meet with governmental officials and organizations to discuss practical ways to address these challenges.

Dr. Adoo is an education and management expert with more than 15 years’ experience in the areas of organizational leadership, professional development, and developmental disabilities. His research interests focus on employee work motivation and wellbeing, organizational change, and uncertain employment relations. At Shorter, he was nominated for the university’s 2016 Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence and Campus Leadership Award.

He has served as a member of the editorial board of The Journal of the Georgia Public Health Association, a peer-reviewed publication addressing public and community health, health education and health promotion issues. He is the founder and managing partner of Education and Management Consulting, LLC, (EMCLLC), an organizational development consulting and solutions company working with businesses and governments.
