Retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Lance Maffett spoke on “Christian Leadership in a Secular Military”
Highly decorated retired U.S. Marine Corps Col. Lance Maffett spoke on “Christian Leadership in a Secular Military” before a standing-room-only crowd on Thursday, Feb. 11. Maffett’s lecture was hosted by Rick Johnson as part of Shorter’s Character Education course. Col. Maffett discussed the Judeo-Christian principles that were part of the establishment of the U.S. Military and that still define the military’s leadership training. He encouraged the students to pay attention to the state of the military, suggesting that the U.S. Military is a microcosm of our nation’s society. To the students present, many of whom will be voting in their first presidential election, he underscored the importance of voting. “Pull the lever (in the voting booth) based on what your values are. The President and the Congress you vote for is also the military you vote for,” he said.
