
Nominations Open for 2023 Distinguished Alumni Awards
The Distinguished Alumni Awards are given annually to outstanding alumni that have met the requirements of the individual awards (see below). The deadline for submitting nominations for this year’s awards is Friday, September 8, 2023

The form can be completed electronically and emailed to alumni@shorter.edu or printed and mailed to Alumni Office, Shorter University, 315 Shorter Ave, Rome, GA 30165. Please complete all areas of the nomination form.
Recipients of the 2022 Distinguished Alumni are Dr. Steve Parr, executive director of Georgia’s largest association of churches, the Gwinnett Metro Baptist Network; Mr. William James, 23-year nonprofit management veteran and founder of the charitable organization Summit Quest; and Mrs. Courtney Greathouse (Overton), senior account manager and Industrial Division lead at Covalent Logic, a public relations agency in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Distinguished Alumni Award
The Distinguished Alumni Award is the highest honor bestowed upon alumni of Shorter University. This award recognizes an alumnus or alumna who has demonstrated outstanding personal achievement, public service, or accomplishment in service to the global community. This award shall be given to a nominee who has achieved success far beyond average. To be considered, a nominee must have completed and received a degree from the University and be in agreement with the Mission Statement of the University.
Distinguished Alumni Service Award
This award recognizes an alumnus or alumna who has given outstanding service back to the university in leadership, volunteerism, on-campus service, recruiting efforts or financial support. To be considered, a nominee must have completed and received a degree from the University and be in agreement with the Mission Statement of the University.
Distinguished Young Alumni Award
This award honors a Shorter graduate from the past 10 years who has shown promise though his or her professional achievement, community service and/or dedication to the University and who embraces the Shorter University mission. In order for a prospective person to be nominated for this award, he/she must have completed and received a degree from the University and be in agreement with Shorter’s mission.
Nominations for prospective candidates for the awards are accepted only from Shorter alumni. The person providing a nomination must be non-related and non-involved to the individual being nominated. The nominating alumni must be in agreement with the mission of the University.
